Privacy Policy – Tidal Warfare
Last Updated: March 2025
Effective Date: March 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to Tidal Warfare — our naval combat game where you compete for high scores and climb the leaderboard. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use Tidal Warfare (“Game”), including the mobile app (Android), the web version (WebGL), and our game servers and leaderboard services. This policy is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Notice for Parents: This Game may be played by children under 13. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with COPPA. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account & Game Data
When you play Tidal Warfare, we collect the following so we can provide your game profile, save progress, and run the leaderboard:
- Device identifier (deviceId): A unique identifier for your device. Tidal Warfare uses one account per device — this ID links your device to your single game account and lets you stay signed in without email or password.
- Username: A display name you choose when you register (not your real name). It must be unique across all players and is shown in-game and on the global leaderboard.
- High score: Your best game score. We store only your highest score so we can update it when you beat your record and rank you on the leaderboard.
- Coins: Your total in-game coins (earned through gameplay). We store this so your progress is saved across sessions.
- Last played (playedAt): A timestamp of when you last played, used to keep your account and stats up to date.
This data is stored in our database (MongoDB Atlas, database “tidalwarfare”, collection “users”) and is used for registration, auto sign-in by device, score submission, and the public leaderboard (username and score only).
2.2 Technical Information
We may automatically collect limited technical information to operate and improve the Game:
- Device type and operating system
- App or web version and general usage (e.g. to fix bugs)
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Real names, email addresses, or physical addresses
- Phone numbers or contact lists
- Location data (GPS)
- Photos, videos, or files from your device
- Payment or credit card information
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect only to operate Tidal Warfare and its services:
- Account & sign-in: To create and recognize your account (one per device), so you can play without email or password.
- Game progress: To save and sync your high score and coins across sessions.
- Leaderboard: To rank players by high score and show your username and score (and others’) on the Tidal Warfare leaderboard.
- Service operation: To run our game servers and database, fix errors, and improve the game.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests.
4. Data Storage and Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data:
- Transmission: Data between your device and our servers is sent over HTTPS/TLS where available.
- Storage: User data is stored in MongoDB Atlas with encryption at rest and access controls.
Tidal Warfare does not use email or password login; identification is device-based only, so we do not store any passwords.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We use the following third-party services that may process data:
- MongoDB Atlas: Cloud database hosting. Their privacy policy applies to their services.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
For children under 13, we collect only what is necessary to provide the Game (e.g. device identifier, username, game scores). Parents may contact us to review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child’s information.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Game. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where we must retain it for legal or regulatory reasons.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- Account deletion: You may delete your account and associated data at any time on our Delete Account page (
/delete-account on this site), or by contacting us at the email below.
- Access & correction: You may ask to access or correct the information we hold about you.
- GDPR (EEA): You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and to object, where applicable.
- CCPA (California): You have the right to know what we collect, to access your information, and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Game after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
